| ASKED (AND ANTICIPATED) QUESTIONS |

Welcome to the New Asked & Anticipated Questions Section! If you're looking for info about this comic, you're in the right place. However, if you're looking for sarcastic mockery of the concept of FAQs, try that page. If you are looking for the old AQs from when Holy Evil ran the site, I've archived it here.
Q: How often do you update?
A: Updates are Q: Do you have any background in art or drawing or anything? A: You should be able to tell that the answer is no. Q: How do you draw your comic? A: There is no initial paper version. I do it all using old graphic programs. Initially I just drew wobbly shapes with my mouse via freehand, but then I started using lines that I could curve to make everything smoother. Q: How long does it take you to do each comic? A: About 9 Mega-Rels. Oh what? You don't know how to convert from Dalek time units? Must suck for you. Q: Some of your panels may look like parts of them are traced from pictures. Is that unethical or illegal (licensing violation)? A: Probably both. Refer back to your second question. I refer to it as "rotoscoping." It makes me sounds classy, like I wear a monocle. Why thank you good sir, I shall have that dandy pair of knee breeches, I do say. Q: Do you base your character's faces on particular people? A: Yes, but not all of them. You'll probably notice the ones that are, as many are quite obvious. If they are, I'll include that information under "Misc" in their character bio. I didn't know if this is a common comic thing, but I read Rags Morales describe in the Identity Crisis trade paperback how he based characters on real people (Green Arrow = Layne Staley... sweet!) Also from Secret War you can tell one chick is clearly just 3 different tracings of Angelina Jolie cut and paste over and over again... but then again Marvel Comics sucks ass. HA, EAT THAT JOE GATTUS! Q: Who makes the comics? A: Holy Evil started the site and made the initial comics. Eddie Havoc initially provided one-off stories that were intended to explain the background of Arsenic and Home Base. After Holy Evil got too lazy to update the site, Eddie Havoc stepped in to take over the regular series. Holy Evil now occasionally returns to do one-offs and storyarcs.
Q: What is "Home Base?" A: An evil terrorist/criminal organization bent on world domination (somewhat inspired by SPECTRE, Cobra Command, ACROSS from The Excel Saga, the Illuminati group on Metalocalypse, etc). It has secretly infiltrated many institutions of power around the world as a means to set the stage for its eventual takeover. Q: Why are the people in Home Base named after elements? A: Arsenic was originally created in 2001, and was just named that because it sounded cool. In 2005, Holy Evil created Selenium, a companion character who was sent by "home base" to assist Arsenic. After that, the concepts of Home Base and an organization of villains named after the elements evolved. All of the villains in the Home Base organization are known as "Elements." Q: Created in 2001? But this comic has only been around since 2006. A: The main characters and many other characters who appear throughout are based on characters who appeared in a PBBG called Wrassle[dot]Net and the MMORPG City of Heroes. Many of the storylines here will be roughly inspired by the storylines from before, but played around with to fit the new format/give a comic feel, etc. Q: Why do the elements wear masks? A: To hide their faces (duh). Many of them lead double lives, and the secrecy of thier missions is important. The majority of the elements in Home Base don't even know their compatriots' own identities and work independently of one another. The few times they do meet, they are masked. Obviously, when the elements are off doing their missions, their masks are off so they just appear to be normal people. Q: Then why does Arsenic ALWAYS wear his gasmask? A: He's quirky. Q: In a comic you mentioned the "S-Block?" What is that? A: The leadership council of Home Base. In chemistry, a group of elements in the left two rows (& Helium) are in the "s-block" due to their properties. It's just a convenient name for a leadership group, which shows that the organization has a hierarchy. It also shows that I took Advanced Placement Chemistry in high school, or at least know how to use Wikipedia enough to pretend I did. Q: Will this comic mostly follow the story of Arsenic? A: Yes, but there will continue to be occasional one-off stories featuring other characters in Home Base, or other related stories. It is the intention of all one-off stories to somehow payoff later in the regular storyline. Maybe. Or not. Leave me alone. Q: Is this comic funny? A: My definition of "comic" more closely follows "comic book" than the "funny pages." There will be no 3-4 panels with a payoff joke at the end. That being said, it does not take itself seriously either. Any comic I make will be dominated by my sense of humor - which relies of self-deprecation, sarcasm, irony and general douchebaggery. My first comics were notably lacking in humor because at the time I did them I thought that Arsenic having a more serious background in the past would provide an interesting juxtaposition with how he was more of a goofball in the present, which was stupid and I just should have gone for silly all along. I can't promise every update will have a "zinger," but I'll try to make them not suck.
